October 4, 2007 Fall is definately in the air and what a welcome relief after the HOT days of August. I do believe that it was the hottest for the longest that it's ever been. And boy were we feeling it in our un-air conditioned shop! We joke and say that we offer the only AUTHENTIC old store experience, complete with no air conditioning! One of these years we need to give out those old fashion advertising fans! Wouldn't that be appropriate!! We've had a great year so far...thank you to all who have given us some of our "best days/months ever". The traffic continues to increase and everyone continues to love what we offer, so hallelujah! A big change for 2007 has been that we are no longer renting canoes. Boo!!! We apologize to all those folks who have come thinking that we could help them explore the lakes around Tallulah Falls. It was with much sadness that we closed down that aspect of our business, but the insurance company made us do it! The premium for the liability coverage was greater than what we make in a year so it left us with no choice. How sad that a small "mom & pop" can't offer a simple pasttime like canoeing. We carry old fashion tin signs advertising canoe rentals, indeed representing a time gone by. Fortunately though we have been able to send people to Rabun Boat Works, a larger company that provided canoes, jet skis, pontoons, and fishing boats for the lakes in Rabun County. Call the shop at 706-754-4318 and we'd be glad to hook you up with them or email us at info@tallulahpoint.com. We'd like to wish everyone a wonderful Fall and invite you to come visit us during one of the prettiest times in Tallulah Falls! And please think of us when you are considering your holiday shopping! We are open 7 days a week, 12 months out of the year for your convenience. Support your local ma & pa establishments! Wal-Mart, Target, and all the other big boxes get plenty of business! Don't forget to shop with us on line also. We generally get all order out within 24 hours on all in stock merchandise. Thanks for your support!!!! Mary Beth, Don, Dove, Shelle, Shanley
April 8, 2005 Spring is here! Finally! We are coming out of our winter hibernation and having fun! The store is about to bust at the seams with all our new merchandise. Don & I had a great time at the Mart this year finding some really cool stuff to round out the edges, bringing our shoppers some really wonderful choices. We are so pleased with what we are offering. We went global this year and found some new products from all over the world....just yesterday the pottery from Columbia arrived...great looking planters, urns, pitchers, jugs, all made in the traditional style of Columbia; we also now have gorgeous colorful hammocks, pillows, and hammock chairs from Brazil; traditional indoor lanterns from Asia: wonderful brightly painted goatskin lamps from Morocco: desktop zen sand gardens; beautiful solid color candles...oh...just too many to list them all! As of now, we don't have these new products on line, so you'll just have tocome by the shop and see what we've got!!! We have added many new items and categories to the website as we feverously work to get all of our lines represented. It's an daunting task as we have so much, but we are pleased to add the tin signs and magnets which are great sellers in the shop, as well as many other items. We have our Santas on sale so be sure to check that out under "Holiday", as well as ornaments and other Christmas items. Those sale items can be found under "Clearance" in the "Holiday" section. Good news! Ruth had her sweet baby girl in January so she will be working at home on the website. We will miss her in the shop, but we will see her efforts on line! The April whitewater releases went very well , although the weather this past saturday was horrible! A few brave kayakers did make it out! The next whitewater releases will be the first 3 weekends in November so if you've never seen these brave folks navigate over Tallulah Falls, then you gotta come! What a hoot to watch from our covered porch as they zip over Sweet Sixteen, which is right below us. Too much fun! Well...we hope everyone had a great winter and we look forward to seeing you or hearing from you in 2005! Remember, we are open 7 days a week, 9-6! Stop by and see us! November 24, 2004 Life is good here at Tallulah Point! The leaves suprised us all and gave us a beautiful showing last week of all things! We all thought the leaf changing was over, and then, after some cooler temperatures and drier times, the leaves put on a stunning show the 3rd week in November. What a pleasant suprise. None of us can remember that ever happening. The 3 Whitewater Release weekends were fun. If you have never come to see that, you've got to put it on your calender for next year. The Whitewater Releases happen 5 weekends out of the year; the first 2 weekends in April and the first 3 weekends in Nov. Georgia Power Co releases enough water for people to come kayak the Gorge. It's spectacular and you can see the kayakers navigating the river from our overlook porch. Please note that we will be closed Thanksgiving Day but will be open Thanksgiving weekend. Please stop and see us as you pass by. Dove and I have added 212 more items to the website. Check out the new departments: Santas, featuring our many different Santa Claus, Ornaments, including a Clearance section!, our highly popular Old Fashion Sodas, Candle Holders, and more. There is still plenty of time to order for holiday gift giving! Also note: Starting Dec. 1st, we will go to our Winter Hours . We will open at 9:30 and close at 5:00. We will still be here 7 days a week, weather permitting. We will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Friday Dec 3rd, the Tallulah Falls Business Association will sponsor its annual Community Christmas Celebration with a potluck dinner starting at 5:00 at Town Hall. At 6:00 we will have a bonfire down by Tallulah Lake and sing Christmas Carols, led by Shady Grove Baptist Church, as we "light" the area's only Floating Christmas Tree on the Lake! It's always a lot of fun and the Tree is so pretty with the reflection of the thousands of lights in the lake. It will stay lit until after the new year. ok...that's all I can think of for now! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. And remember....THE DOOR is always open! COME ON IN! October 20, 2004 Fall is here! The leaves are changing, there is a crispness in the air, and we have the pot of hot cider going! Come quick or you'll miss the leaves, but we'll have the hot cider going all winter! Dove & I have been working very hard these past 2 months since we launched this new website entering more items that are available. I am happy to say that we now have 504 items for sale on the site with many more still to come! Our goal is to have most of our inventory on line by the end of the winter and then to keep it updated with all the new merchandise as it arrives next spring. Stay tuned for so much more and as usual, thanks so much! September 20, 2004 Well, we survived Frances and Ivan with just minimal inconvenience and loss. Nothing compared to what others have had to deal with. We were without power for 4 days, but only closed for 1 of them. Thanks to the folks that came to see us in the dark! Our hearts go out to the folks who suffered such loss and destruction. On the upside, the water in the Gorge was incredible! We had NEVER seen so much water. It was truly amazing. Take care...hope you and yours are safe. August 20, 2004 marks our tenth anniversary owning and operating Tallulah Point Overlook! wow! What a long strange trip it's been! Who would have known what was to become ten years ago when we stumbled upon this new adventure! What would we have done without all the friends that have helped us along the way...the Eller family, along with Denise's mother and Marty, who came and helped us paint and fix up the building in those ten days between when we decided to open up and our opening date in 1994!...Johnny and Ann, who were so generous with us and helped us get on our feet...our many loyal customers who come in year after year, who have been there with us, watching us grow, encouraging us on...our two sons who have put up with all the demands of owning our own business, they make it worthwhile...and of course, our incredible staff: Dove who has been with us for over 6 years, Tiffany, who helped us so much off and on for many years; Deb, who we couldn't get along without her artistic computer know how!; Amie, who comes back every summer she can, and the newest member of our family, Ruth, who will bless us with a new one of her own this January...without our dedicated staff, we'd really have it rough! We feel so blessed. Thank you everyone! And it is with much excitement and enthusiasm that we launch this much-improved, more high tech, more upscale website!! Not all the products are entered, but you can see what's coming, and we're never more than a phone call or a visit away! Stay tuned as we grow the website like we have grown the business. Thanks to Jason and Daniel of Digital Impact Design in Cornelia, GA, who designed and built our site based on the wonderful brochure that they created for us in 2003. Thanks also goes to Jason for his patience with all my questions and requests! We hope you like our new look...please let us know if you have any complaints or suggestions! And remember, The Door is Always Open, COME ON IN! love, Don & Mary Beth
